Flo Friedrich
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I help people with disabilities or chronic illness live fulfilling lives with autonomy and self-compassion. As a person with a disability myself, I bring a layer of personal understanding to my clients and a passion for supporting this community.
I offer virtual therapy sessions that you can attend from your own home.

I think of therapy as a space to explore life's obstacles and practice new skills to navigate them in a way that feels safe and helpful. I work with clients to turn toward difficult thoughts and feelings that feel hard to approach alone. I teach skills to help clients relate to difficulties in a more helpful way, and we practice in session. This is a collaborative process. We work together to figure out what approach meets them where they're at and moves them towards their goals.
My Approach to Therapy
My practice
is informed by...
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
-
Mindfulnes
-
Trauma-Informed Care
-
Curiosity and Compassion
In my practice, I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). INSERT LINK. ACT can help people lead their lives with intention, even when difficult thoughts, feelings, and experiences are present. I also have experience using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Emotion-Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). I draw upon mindfulness-based approaches, trauma-informed care, or share from my own experiences if I think it will be helpful to you.
What Brings You to Therapy?
There are things that happen in life that we can't control or didn't choose. This may ring especially true when you live with a disability or chronic health condition. Perhaps you struggle with unpredictable changes in your health or feel anxious about how others perceive you. Maybe you're grieving a life without disability, feel angry at the medical system, or feel isolated from others.
These experiences are often overlooked, unheard, or lumped together into one assumed understanding of what life with a disability is like. As a therapist, I want to understand what life with a disability is like and means for you as a unique person with your own experiences, thoughts, and feelings.
At the same time, disability and health may not always be at the center of the challenges you face. There is no expectation that everything you bring to therapy must be disability-related. We will make space for all aspects of your identity and experiences.
Some of the things I work on with clients include:
-
Disability and identity
-
Life transitions
-
Relationships and dating
-
Interpersonal issues
-
Anxiety, depression, and stress trauma
Everything you are thinking, feeling, and experiencing is welcome in our sessions.
More About Me

First off, thanks for taking the time to visit my page. Here is a little more about me:
I started this practice to create a space that supports mental health among people with disabilities and chronic illness. My passion for this work is informed by my own experiences as a person with low vision. I believe that supporting people with disabilities and chronic illness in living with confidence and compassion will help the rest of the world move with less ableism, stigma, and barriers to this community.
Beyond disability and mental health, I enjoy painting and being outdoors. I love taking long walks with my dog, Banjo, while listening to an audiobook or podcast. Banjo is usually asleep in my office during therapy sessions, and he enjoys meeting new people as a therapy dog himself!
